Boston Volvo Village
Address: 75 N Beacon St, Allston, MA 02134
Project Team: The Ciccolo Group (Developers), Arrowstreet (Architects)

Boston Volvo Village in Allston, MA is an adaptive reuse of a 72,000 square foot industrial building constructed in 1924 and was the original home of International Harvester Farm Equipment. Arrowstreet’s design will bring this mixed-use project back to its original industrial style and luster. The new Volvo showroom will highlight Volvo’s leadership in technology and evolution in the automotive industry while also reducing the impact on the neighborhood from a 4 acre parking lot to 3 floors of the 5 story building. In addition to the automotive sales area, the building, equipped with a vehicle sized freight elevator and floors with high structural capacity and tall ceilings, will house two floors of office R&D use. For this project, Arrowstreet worked closely with our client to study multiple changes in program and project parameters, including a late addition of historic tax credits.

The space will become a model for the future for urban car dealerships with limited land. Vehicle storage will move from the parking lot to inside with less vehicle’s in physical inventory due to the emergence of online car shopping and the evolving future of autonomous vehicles. Preliminary plans for Phase 2 call for the present car dealership on 75 North Beacon Street to be developed into several new buildings consisting of multi-family housing and retail program.
