As one of the busiest airports in the country, servicing over 40 million people a year, the Logan Forward initiative positions Logan Airport to become an airport of the future, undertaking almost a dozen new infrastructure projects across the next few years. A key component of this is the design of a 2,000 space parking garage for Terminal E. During the concept phase, Arrowstreet looked at various scenarios for how the garage could be adapted over its lifespan to support a variety of uses and car densities. High level cost estimates were developed for structural upgrades, increased material volumes (for taller floor-to-floor heights), and additional design loads so the Port Authority could evaluate the various options. The selected design option minimally increases the floor-to-floor heights potentially allowing it to be converted to future hotel use, and increases the foundation capacity for future loads.
