Our Arrowstreet team participated in many firm wide initiatives and activities celebrating Earth Month:

Meatless Monday

A few Arrowstreet teammates participated in a “Meatless Monday Cook-Off”. These master chefs each created a vegan-themed dish which was then taste-tested by fellow co-workers. After the taste-testing, there was an anonymous vote taken for best dish. Congratulations to Jessica Roach on winning first place with her Chickpea Meatballs in a Red Pepper Sauce! Second place turned out to be a tie between Claudette L’ Huillier’s Slow Cooker Peanut Stew (Maafe-Inspired) and Kate Bubriski’s Sesame Ginger Noodle Salad. Thank you to all who participated, everything was delish!

Pecha Kucha Night

Four of our team members presented their Pecha Kucha focused on Earth-based themes.

Claudette L’ Huillier presented a very interesting historic, geographical view of France during the 1660’s, where leaders began to discuss solutions for creating a permanent connection to the Northern and Southern regions of the country. Claudette shares the timeline of events that led to the development of an artificial waterway as a solution. The water system took 14 years to complete, with 12,000 workers involved.

Autumn Waldron’s presentation focused on Global Food Waste. She shared several forms of data, in the form of graphs and bar charts, and provided tips to help reduce wasteful habits overall and help develop more, sustainable strategies for food preservation and use.

Kate Bubriski shared an image portfolio of her personal, home garden in Melrose, MA. Last year, from early Spring to late Summer, Kate had catalogued more than 50 species of flowers, 25 non-flowering species, and 2 invasive species consisting of flowers, weeds, and shrubs. Her garden also features a small pond, which at one time was home to multiple Koi fish!

Andrea Brue shared photos and videos of she and her husband’s hiking trails all around the greater Boston area, which began during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of their first hikes was along the Middlesex Fells Reservation. Andrea stated that she re-visits these images and videos often for meditation, stress relief, and as a constant reminder of “the beauty of nature and how much we need to take care of it.”

Scavenger Hunt

Three Arrowstreet teams are currently participating in an online / in-person Earth Month Scavenger Hunt hosted by Built Environment Plus from April 22nd to May 8th. Each team has access to a list of missions that they may complete within the time period. The winning team, with the most missions completed, shall be announced during an outdoors event hosted by the Built Environment Plus on May 12th.

To kick things off, on April 28th, some of our AST team members gathered for an in-person, meetup event at Mija Cantinato work on missions and wrapped up with some drinks and small bites afterwards!

Good luck to the following teams!

  • Team Artemis
  • The Wayfinders
  • Queen V & Triple Aces

Earth Month Vendor Presentation / Meet and Greet with Garden on the Wall

Local vendor, Garden on the Wall, a provider of vertical, garden installations for interiors, gave a presentation and informal meet and greet to discuss their materials and overall goals to provide a Biophilic design to projects through resiliency and sustainable practices.

These installations are also made from natural preserved plants, require no water, misting or irrigation, and they possess a life span (e.g., they retain a nice appearance) on average for 7-10 years.

The events might be coming to a close, but our belief is to carry these practices through all year long. We look forward to participating in a greener world!
