With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season in full swing, Arrowstreet always strives to make time to give back to our community. During the month of November we sponsor a Turkey Drive to benefit the students of The Next Wave / Full Circle and Argenziano Schools in Somerville. We love reading the thank-you letters sent to us by the students after Thanksgiving – they touch our hearts.

Simultaneously, I have been selling pies for Community Serving’s Pie in the Sky for the past three years and surpassed my goal to sell 17 pies this year. Most of my pie sales come from Arrowstreet employees, so as a special thank you for their generosity I pick up all of our pie orders the day before Thanksgiving and hand deliver them to each person’s desk. I am especially proud to be a pie seller knowing that 90% of all the money raised in 2011 will be used to provide our neighbors in need free home-delivered meals and nutrition programs.

Realizing the demand for food during the holiday season greatly increases, we also run a food drive to benefit The Somerville Homeless Coalition providing healthy food staples to many in need in the Somerville area. And to end the year, we run a Toy Drive to benefit The East End House in Cambridge. We like to make it a little easier for those who don’t have time to shop, so we buy games, toys, and books that people can “purchase” from a little “toy shop” we set up in the lobby.

Whether it be by volunteering at The Women’s Lunch Place, organizing a food drive, or selling pies, I am definitely proud to be part of an organization that is devoted to helping those less fortunate and will continue to coordinate these efforts on behalf of Arrowstreet. Thank you to Arrowstreet and all of our generous staff for a great year!
