As part of the design for 450 Kendall Street, Arrowstreet planned for an installation of public art to activate the plaza. Our client, BioMed Realty commissioned New England sculptor Chris Williams to create “Nerve Center,” an illuminated 25-foot-tall metal and glass representation of innovation in Kendall Square. According to Williams, the inspiration for the design came from “Kendall Square’s prominence as a technology hub and as a nucleus for innovation, and celebrates the transformation that Kendall Square has undergone, from its industrious roots to a life science and technology hub…Kendall Square’s success is cemented in the network of individuals that have worked together to build a thriving community of talented people focused on common goals.” The sculpture was installed earlier this month, and can be seen in front of 450 Kendall Street.
