Last week, Katie Ferrier and I led a group of Arrowstreet designers on a tour of the new KIPP Academy Boston Charter School in Mattapan. As the project nears completion, school administrators are gearing up for the start of school, and we took a sneak peek at what the new facility will provide for KIPP students and the local community.
After 3 years of design and construction, we were able to see the culmination of countless decisions; everything from the rich tapestry of reds on the exterior (emulating a modern composition of Boston brick), to the presence of natural light, and sleek super-graphics on the interior. Even as KIPP was in the process of moving in, the light, bright spaces were welcoming and cheerful! Check back soon for more updates as students arrive for their first day of school next week, and we help them celebrate at an official ribbon cutting a few weeks later!
