We are excited to share the design for the new Squantum School in Quincy, MA — a public elementary school designed for the students and community. The project preserves and renovates the highly-valued 1919 building with the remainder of the school as a brand-new facility.

Centrally located in Squantum, the high-performing school will seamlessly integrate into its residential surroundings. Thoughtfully designed with sustainable architecture, the building features energy-efficient systems, natural lighting, and adaptable learning spaces that support modern educational practices. Designed to provide state-of-the-art learning environments for students, the school also functions as a valuable resource for the broader community, fostering engagement and collaboration beyond the classroom.

The design team is considering salvaging a portion of the original 1949 gym wood floor with the “Savannah” school mascot. 5th grade “architects” showed off their math skills to help answer some questions for the design team. Ms. Bergin’s math students measured the diameter of the center-court circle in the gym, making this a meaningful hands-on experience. As the final fifth grade class to occupy the existing building before its demolition later this fall, their involvement symbolizes a connection between the past, present, and future.

Fun fact: The diameter is 12’-0 1/2” with the border and 11’-8 1/4” without the border.
