Shoppers World in Framingham, Massachusetts is one of the country’s oldest open-air retail centers, originally opened in the 1950s. Over the decades, it has continually evolved to reflect changing consumer habits — and this latest transformation continues that legacy.
When Site Centers approached Arrowstreet, they asked us to reimagine a portion of the site by removing two junior anchor stores and an aging pad site. In their place, we were tasked with designing a new-to-the-market grocery store along with a curated collection of food and beverage options to serve the area’s growing daytime population.
The result is a walkable new retail cluster anchored by a regional grocery concept (opening late 2025) and surrounded by a mix of fast-casual dining choices — Mediterranean bowls, sushi, coffee from Starbucks, and more. The plan introduces flexible storefront footprints, generous outdoor seating, and a refreshed pedestrian flow that better connects the site’s interior and its adjacent retail zones.
This update reinforces Shoppers World’s ongoing role as a dynamic community destination — one that now better serves modern, on-the-go shoppers while still retaining the high-traffic energy the center has long been known for.
