Rechler Corporate Headquarters Wins EDC Award

We’re happy to announce that the Rechler Corporate Headquarters has been awarded EDC Magazine’s Excellence in Design Award in the Commercial Renovation category. The award honors the building’s unique sustainable strategies, such as its highly efficient, super-insulated building envelope. The project will be featured in EDC Magazine’s June issue, along with a podcast on their website.

Check out the video above (1:50 – 2:50), and for more information on this project and the other winners check out the awards webpage.

101 Main Street

Arrowstreet recently designed Biomed’s new Cambridge offices. The 9,300 square foot space on the 16th floor at 101 Main St. features a display wall spine that curves through the space with interactive large screen and pin-up displays of current projects. The wall draws visitors past conference rooms that overlook Biomed projects in Boston and Cambridge. Other features include a central café bar, open and visually transparent work spaces, and exposed ceilings with acoustic treatment. The project was a great team effort, with construction by Moriarty.

301 Binney Lobby Photography

We are happy to share this photography of the new lobby at 301 Binney Street.  Arrowstreet originally served as the architect for this Kendall Square biotech building, which opened about five years ago.  Our client, BioMed, then approached us about creating a lobby that would differentiate the building amongst the Cambridge lab market. The active, dynamic shared space now encourages tenant interaction and collaboration. A custom…

Unum Office Building Time-Lapse

Through the wonders of time-lapse photography, you can now watch the construction of our recently completed Unum Worcester headquarters building in under two minutes. It’s interesting to note that there is as much activity in the background and adjacent streets as there is on the building itself. Special thanks to Mike Conlan and Pat Strangie for all their work in CA – each of them probably has a (very) brief cameo in this video!

Side note: the Unum project and the CitySquare development are the topic of this month’s ULI Member Lunch with Donald Birch – if you’re a member of ULI, we look forward to seeing you there.

A New Courtyard at 210 Broadway

Just this past fall, a new courtyard opened at 210 Broadway in Cambridge. With ipe decks and seating that seem to flow right up and out of the courtyard, and an illuminated glass wall along the street edge, there is now a bright, comfortable place for building occupants to take a break from work and get fresh air…

301 Binney Lobby Opens

Recently Jim Batchelor, Peter Belford, Meghan Perlow, and I attended the grand opening celebration for BioMed Realty’s new lobby at 301 Binney Street. This Arrowstreet-designed building opened in 2008, and a little over a year ago BioMed asked us to help them revamp the lobby to encourage more tenant interaction. The most admired feature of the new space is without a doubt the video wall, which loops a 53-minute video featuring numerous aquatic scenes. We’re also proud of the undulating metal ceiling panels that break up the space in a visually interesting way. Stay tuned for professional photography in the next few weeks!

New DCR Maintenance Building

As part of the Waterfront Square at Revere Beach development, Arrowstreet is currently designing a new building including restrooms, storage of maintenance and support materials, and DCR offices. The building was carefully sited to maintain line-of-sight between the Arrowstreet-designed South Garage and Pedestrian Bridge and the scenic Revere Beach.

A Time to Look Back

The start of a new year brings optimism and refreshed energy for the future, and also a chance to look back on accomplishments from the previous year. 2012 was a busy year at Arrowstreet. We celebrated the opening of two new charter schools in the Boston metro area, the corporate headquarters for Rechler Equity in Long Island, White Elephant Village Inn in Nantucket, a T-station garage and cool new bridge in Revere, and an LL Bean store in Danbury. The Arrowstreet construction banner was flying high in 2012…

Mocking Up a New Office Space

Arrowstreet recently unveiled a new studio section designed to test an open plan concept. Eight stations (four benching layouts and four shared U-shaped) were constructed using recycled materials from an area formerly secluded and compartmentalized. By eliminating tall walls and bringing available light deeper into the space, we created a much better flow with the rest of the office. We will push the “reduce, recycle, reuse” concept further by moving into smaller stations and sharing adjacent meeting tables, a stand-up meeting bar, and a sketching station. Photos to come!
