We’re happy to share these recent construction photos of the CitySquare development in downtown Worcester. Arrowstreet has been working on the planning and design of the mixed-use development which will create a revitalized neighborhood and reintroduce retail and entertainment to Worcester’s downtown. The first building to be built in this development is One Mercantile Place, a 200,000 square foot office building that will consolidate Unum’s Worcester offices. Construction is tearing along, and we are on track for a October 2012 completion.

It’s been a long process of unbundling and extricating the new site from the former Worcester Common Mall and existing complex. That process is nearing completion as workers dismantle the last of portions of structure to be demolished. The result of this complex phase of work will be a vibrant urban neighborhood which re-knits the downtown with the center part of the City, restoring a connection lost over 40 years ago.

The next piece of the puzzle to be constructed is the project’s site work, which includes creation of New Front, Mercantile and Trumbull Streets as well as associated public works infrastructure. Also rising alongside the East Garage Renovation is an Outpatient Cancer Center by Saint Vincent’s Hospital.
