New DCR Maintenance Building

As part of the Waterfront Square at Revere Beach development, Arrowstreet is currently designing a new building including restrooms, storage of maintenance and support materials, and DCR offices. The building was carefully sited to maintain line-of-sight between the Arrowstreet-designed South Garage and Pedestrian Bridge and the scenic Revere Beach.

We Have Thrown Away The Keys To This Place

Now and then, I like to revisit a past project and see how it’s doing. Sometimes when you create a building, you spend so much time with it that you grow attached to it and almost think of it as a family member. The L.L.Bean Hunting and Fishing Store in Freeport, Maine is one of those projects. I remember working hard not only to create great retail space but also on the little things, like shelves, nooks, and other special places for the taxidermy displays and heritage pieces like original rifles used by L.L. Bean himself…

Celebrating the Year Together at The Andover Inn

I always look forward to celebrating the year with my fellow Arrowstreeters and at our annual end of the year Holiday Party that I help plan. Joined by family and friends, we had the pleasure this year of getting together in style at the Andover Inn (where Arrowstreet recently completed renovations). Delicious food along with charming company made the evening one of a kind. This year instead of having our usual “arts & crafts” area for the kids, we selected (with their parents’ help!) a game or activity that we knew they would enjoy. It was so much fun watching them find and unwrap their entertaining gifts. The children also had an ice cream sundae bar that several of us were envying all night. As always, it was a wonderful way for the Arrowstreet family to bring the year to a close.

An Update on Chestnut Hill

Chestnut Hill Square’s long journey is becoming reality. The foundations are poured, the steel is erected, the exterior brick and limestone facades are being installed, storefront and curtainwall glass is underway, and the parking garage precast erection starts this week. Soon tenants like Wegmans Food Market, the health club Equinox, and restaurants Seasons 52 and Brio Tuscan Grille will begin…

The Arrowstreet Drawing Challenge

Starting February 1, Arrowstreet is hosting a Drawing Challenge. In this electronic age of non-stop emailing, texting, and media consumption, we’re challenging everybody who wants to participate to put down the phone and pick up a pencil.

We’re doing this in the office, and we’d like to invite any of our readers to join us!

Here are the basics…

Updates @ALISconference

Yesterday I attended the opening session of The Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) in Los Angeles, and I wanted to share some early themes from the convention. Attendance at the conference is back up to 2,500 (similar to 2007), which some attendees see as a sign that optimism has returned to the market…

A Time to Look Back

The start of a new year brings optimism and refreshed energy for the future, and also a chance to look back on accomplishments from the previous year. 2012 was a busy year at Arrowstreet. We celebrated the opening of two new charter schools in the Boston metro area, the corporate headquarters for Rechler Equity in Long Island, White Elephant Village Inn in Nantucket, a T-station garage and cool new bridge in Revere, and an LL Bean store in Danbury. The Arrowstreet construction banner was flying high in 2012…

Mocking Up a New Office Space

Arrowstreet recently unveiled a new studio section designed to test an open plan concept. Eight stations (four benching layouts and four shared U-shaped) were constructed using recycled materials from an area formerly secluded and compartmentalized. By eliminating tall walls and bringing available light deeper into the space, we created a much better flow with the rest of the office. We will push the “reduce, recycle, reuse” concept further by moving into smaller stations and sharing adjacent meeting tables, a stand-up meeting bar, and a sketching station. Photos to come!
