When the City of Newton engaged Arrowstreet to provide Educational Programming services for the Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School and the Early Childhood Program, the initial goal was to evaluate the feasibility of co-locating both programs on a single site. Following a comprehensive analysis and collaborative planning process, Arrowstreet recommended separating the schools to better serve the distinct developmental needs of each age group through purpose-built learning environments. Both projects are guided by strong sustainability goals, including carbon reduction and long-term cost savings, achieved through thoughtful renovations and efficient design strategies.
Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School currently serves approximately 450 students in grades K–5, including a district-wide special education program. The project reimagines the original 1965 building into a modern, student-centered facility that fosters flexible, engaging learning experiences. The new design supports both independent and small group instruction and expands opportunities for outdoor play and exploration.
The new 98,000-square-foot school will feature fully renovated classrooms, an upgraded auditorium, and a new cafeteria with modern kitchen facilities. A newly constructed addition will house the school’s main office, secure entrance and lobby, library, and gymnasium. Designed with sustainability at its core, the building targets net-zero energy performance through a high-performance building envelope, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and rooftop solar photovoltaic panels.
The new Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School is scheduled to open in fall 2025.
