Travelers on the South Shore will soon start their trip to Boston Logan International Airport without going to the airport first. The Massachusetts Port Authority’s (Massport) Braintree Logan Express and Remote Terminal, designed by Arrowstreet, brings airline check-in, checked baggage, and TSA security screening to Braintree. Passengers will park, drop their bags, and clear security at 262 Forbes Road, then ride a secure bus directly to the airside at Logan and walk straight to their gates.
Building on Massport’s successful remote terminal pilot in Framingham, the Braintree facility will be the first permanent remote terminal of its kind for Logan. It is a new model for expanding airport capacity beyond the airport itself: by bringing core passenger services closer to where people live, it encourages shared transportation, reduces individual car trips to Logan, and gives Massport flexibility to grow bus service as ridership increases.
The remote terminal anchors a full redevelopment of the nearly 20-acre Logan Express site, alongside two new eight-level parking garages that will bring capacity to approximately 5,500 spaces. Improved passenger drop-off areas and dedicated bus circulation will make arrival and departure simple and intuitive.
Designed for a net-zero future. Sustainability is built into the architecture and engineering. Building-integrated photovoltaic panels on the East and West Garage façades turn the buildings’ exteriors into renewable power sources, with additional rooftop solar on the East Garage. A geothermal well system serving ground-source heat pumps will heat and cool the terminal efficiently, and all-electric building systems and a high-performance envelope further reduce energy use in support of Massport’s net-zero goals. The project is targeting LEED Gold and Parksmart Gold certification, and EV charging, with provisions for future expansion, supports travelers’ changing needs.
The redevelopment also restores the site itself. More than 63,000 square feet of pavement within the wetland buffer zone will become pervious landscape, and new stormwater infrastructure and native plantings will improve water quality, runoff management, and climate resilience.
Construction begins with a groundbreaking in October 2026 and proceeds in two phases, with the remote terminal and East Garage opening at the end of 2028. Consigli is serving as construction manager.
