Daylight Hour

Arrowstreet participated in Daylight Hour today by joining thousands of other organizations in turning off the lights in their day-lit office spaces for one hour from noon-1:00. With the beautiful sunny weather in Boston today we went even further and kept the lights off all day in most of the office. Arrowstreet has a highly energy efficient LED lighting system that uses 42% less power than typical offices. But when there is ample daylight in our open studio we want to take advantage of turning of the electric lighting system and saving even more energy.

Mirbeau Inn & Spa Opening This Weekend

If you’re an avid reader of the Boston Globe Sunday magazine, as I am, you’ve probably noticed a rendering of a Monet-inspired luxury boutique has appeared on the back cover for several weeks now. The hotel, the Mirbeau Inn & Spa at the Pinehills, will open this weekend on June 29th. If you’re looking to vacation in Plymouth or in the Cape Cod vicinity, we highly recommend checking it out. The hotel, with its 14,000 square foot, full-service spa, fine dining, and lush grounds inspired by Monet’s impressionist landscapes, set the perfect tone for a relaxing vacation. Our team has greatly enjoyed designing this amazing new destination on the South Shore, and we’d love to hear what you think after you visit.

Arrowstreet Mini-Golf

This past Wednesday night saw the return of mini-golf to Arrowstreet, with friends and family joining us to play a round of 9-holes around our new office space while enjoying drinks and Chinese food. Our staff volunteers signed-up solo or as teams to design one of the eight possible “holes” designated on our office map, with the 9th hole being played on a Wii in our Voodoo Lounge. Each team had a $15 construction budget, and as in their day-to-day work, creative, green design was encouraged. Competition was fierce as each team was eager to take the bragging rights that go along with the coveted title of Best Hole.

A Milestone for Parcel K

I am pleased to announce the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s recent approval of the proposed concept design for Parcel K, a mixed-use residential and hotel development in the Innovation District. A handsome addition to the neighborhood, the development will enhance the streetscape activity along Northern Avenue and perpetuate the spirited night life and energy that’s been started by venues like the adjacent Liberty Wharf and Blue Hills Bank Pavilion.

New Tenant Space at 2 Cambridge Place

As part of our ongoing work with BioMed Realty Trust, they asked us to create a 6,000-sf turnkey space for the high-tech company AdHarmonics at 2 Cambridge Place. With a vibrant color palette, the playful design expresses the company’s cutting-edge brand and culture. Attractive and ergonomic desks and furniture allow employees the flexibility to sit or stand when working. Various huddle spaces promote collaboration and teamwork, and a communal kitchen fosters camaraderie. This space is just one of several designs Arrowstreet has helped bring to life at 210 Broadway including the open and attractive lobby and outdoor courtyard.

Take 1: Our Studio in the Movies

As a follow-up to my previous blog post, I snapped some photos of the action taking place in our studio over the weekend. You can see how the European movie crew transformed our media space (aka, The Voodoo Lounge) into the protagonist’s private office. The movie, which is set in NYC, is an adaptation of a novel by British writer Katie Fforde titled Blood Brothers and will air on German TV.
