A new research campus for life science start-ups
Arrowstreet transformed 200 Sidney, 40 Erie, and 21 Erie Streets into a multi-tenant campus catering to smaller life science companies for BioMed Realty Trust. Just outside of Kendall Square, this 340,000-square-foot office/lab building was formerly used by a single tenant. Arrowstreet renovated the complex using the Universal FlexLab concept to accommodate a variety of emerging biotech tenants. Along with design for four tenant workspaces/labs, major updates were made to the mechanical penthouse, and Class-A finish upgrades along with indoor and outdoor common areas and a new entry lobby. The main entrance of the building at 200 Sidney was relocated to create a campus atmosphere by aligning it with those of 21 & 40 Erie Street. Multiple outdoor gathering spaces were added to allow lab employees the ability to enjoy the site day and night, including a central area with architectural elements, seating, landscaping, and lighting. Arrowstreet was the original architect for the building, which was acquired and is now part of BioMed Realty’s Sidney Research Campus.
