Revere Transit Infrastructure Project Groundbreaking

On September 13th, the second phase of Waterfront Square at Revere Beach kicked off with the groundbreaking of the Transit Infrastructure project.  The Arrowstreet-designed project, part of a public/private partnership between Eurovest Development, the City of Revere, the DCR, and the MBTA,  includes a signature pedestrian bridge symbolizing the City’s commitment to the ongoing redevelopment of historic Revere Beach, recognized as the first public beach in the US.  The public plaza and bridge will directly connect the beach to mass transit and public parking. This groundbreaking follows almost a year to the day after the groundbreaking of Phase 1, our 1465-car parking facility for the MBTA’s Wonderland stop…

Campus Hospitality

Where do you stay when you need a place to spend the night and you are near a school or university?  Arrowstreet has just completed construction on two such projects and is in the midst of design for another.  The University of Massachusetts in Lowell and Harvard University are giving new thoughts to the potential market for guests who wish to stay on-campus, and they are undertaking designs which transform their offerings.  Another related example is our recent work for Phillips Academy Andover at the Andover Inn

KIPP Construction Update

I’d like to share a few photos showing the construction progress of KIPP Academy Lynn. With 100% of the steel up, exterior sheathing applied to one face of the building, and masonry installed on the mockup panel, the building is really starting to take shape. We are on track for a fall 2012 opening.

Fun with Foam Core Mock Ups

We recently took somewhat of an unconventional approach to creating a mock-up room for one of our hospitality clients by actually creating furniture out of foam core so we can quickly get a feel for the space. Since all of the furniture pieces we’ve selected for this renovation project are custom, and the design and construction schedule for the renovation is very tight, we didn’t have the time to do a traditional model room with actual manufactured furniture (which is why we’re calling it a mock-up instead of a model room). This was especially important as the hotel is upgrading from queen beds to king beds, so we want to be sure the client is comfortable with the layout.

Livable Communities Exhibit

Arrowstreet will be showcasing Keen’s Crossing at Winooski Falls at the Livable Communities Exhibit, located  in the A.P.E. Gallery in Northampton, MA from October 1-15. Hosted by the AIA New England / Western Massachusetts AIA, the exhibit highlights projects located in New England or designed by New England firms that relate to the AIA’s Ten Principles of Livable Communities. We felt Keen’s Crossing– located in Winooski, Vermont- was a great fit for many reasons- its vibrant public courtyards, mix of uses, and neighborhood identity among them…

ULI TAP: Jefferson Street Extension

I will be participating in a ULI TAP (Technical Assistance Panel) on October 11 in Fall River. The panel has been asked to examine the Jefferson Street Extension, comprised of several redeveloped mills and privately owned property zoned for industry. The Fall River Office of Economic Development (FROED) has marketed the area for a variety of uses and is looking for suggestions on how to best package these parcels for highest and best use.
