Community Strategies Followup

As a member of the BSA Committee for the Advancement of Sustainability, I had the good fortune to help plan the Forum on Sustainable Public Policy last June. The summary of this event is available now to view and download on the BSA website, here. The intent of the forum was to share with community leaders, citizens, and practitioners the current public and private sector policies that foster and promote sustainable endeavors including buildings, infrastructure, transportation, and planning. Presenters described how these policies and efforts on several fronts cultivate, encourage, and nurture a societal shift toward a more sustainable Massachusetts. The event was jointly sponsored by USGBC Massachusetts and AIA Massachusetts and has been presented to the Massachusetts candidates for governor…

Pumpkin Carving & Decorating Contest

October is one of my favorite months with the feel of the crisp air and sound of leaves crunching under my feet. This October we started off the month at Arrowstreet with a new seasonal sweet treat of pumpkin spice coffee and ended it on Halloween with our annual Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Contest. We had 14 entries this year including a Star Wars Death Star pumpkin, Mr. Pumpkinhead, Cinderella’s Pumpkin Coach, and The Solomon R. Pumpkinheim Museum—just to name a few…

Drones and the Built Environment

We here at Arrowstreet are pleased to add a new piece of technology to our arsenal – the architectural drone! I’ll leave the debate about the military, police states, and Amazon.com for a different forum, but we are excited at the potential for this new equipment.

Participating in Pumpkin Glow

On Wednesday, October 29th several members of the Arrowstreet team headed over to Kendall Square for the 2014 Great Pumpkin Glow. The annual corporate challenge is sponsored in part by our client, BioMed Realty, and benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Middlesex County.

The Pumpkin Glow took place in the North Plaza, in the shadow of our newest project for BioMed, 450 Kendall Street, and guests enjoyed pumpkin carving, live music, cocoa, and doughnuts before the winners were announced. Later there was a cocktail reception in the lobby of 675 West Kendall Street, catered by Blue Ribbon BBQ and featuring a 50/50 raffle. We all had a wonderful time and can’t wait to support this wonderful cause again next year.

“Living with Water” Design Charrette at ABX

Yesterday at ABX, the “Living with Water” Design Charrette was held to kick off a companion Design Challenge for the Boston design community. Mayor Marty Walsh was on hand to announce the competition and to emphasize the city’s commitment to finding solutions to climate change and rising sea levels in our coastal communities. Hosted on the second anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, the charrette invited designers, community leaders, and government officials to reflect on the new policies implemented in New York City and to consider what we here in Boston can learn from them.
