Traveling in Jeddah
In December I went with Rasem Badran of Jordan to meet with a prospective client in Jeddah. The client, who is developing a new retail and mixed-use town center in Medinah, short-listed two finalists to come for an interview and charrette. Rasem has international stature for his work in restoring and building new construction in areas of Islamic heritage, and Arrowstreet has done several projects with his firm. While I was there, I snapped these photos of historic structures in old Jeddah.
Campus Hospitality
Where do you stay when you need a place to spend the night and you are near a school or university? Arrowstreet has just completed construction on two such projects and is in the midst of design for another. The University of Massachusetts in Lowell and Harvard University are giving new thoughts to the potential market for guests who wish to stay on-campus, and they are undertaking designs which transform their offerings. Another related example is our recent work for Phillips Academy Andover at the Andover Inn…
Livable Communities Exhibit
Arrowstreet will be showcasing Keen’s Crossing at Winooski Falls at the Livable Communities Exhibit, located in the A.P.E. Gallery in Northampton, MA from October 1-15. Hosted by the AIA New England / Western Massachusetts AIA, the exhibit highlights projects located in New England or designed by New England firms that relate to the AIA’s Ten Principles of Livable Communities. We felt Keen’s Crossing– located in Winooski, Vermont- was a great fit for many reasons- its vibrant public courtyards, mix of uses, and neighborhood identity among them…
NAIOP Tour of Flex-Lab Sells Out in One Email
As a follow up to my previous post on Universal Flex Labs: A New Approach to Lab Space, the NAIOP site tour was a big hit; so much so that the organization suspended their event marketing after a single email. Attendees had a lot of questions about Arrowstreet’s Flex Lab design for Biomed’s 325 Vassar Street…
Universal Flex Labs: A New Approach to Lab Space
On June 1st, I will be speaking during the sold out NAIOP tour of 325 Vassar Street on the topic of Universal Flex Labs: A New Approach to Lab Space. A key part of designing 325 Vassar Street was working with Biomed Realty Trust to create the Universal Flex Lab template: a modular design of lab, office, and support space that could be quickly and easily customized to suit any technical discipline…
Arrowstreet Celebrates 50 Years
This year, Arrowstreet celebrates our 50th anniversary as a firm. Over the last half century, 1,000+ employees have walked through our doors to become a part of the Arrowstreet family. Throughout these years and all of these employees, certain aspirations have remained central to the place— our sense of community within the firm and the sense of community in the places we shape. Be they the places we live, the places we work or shop, the places we learn, or where we go for entertainment, we have sought to advance that which gives life, enthusiasm, and opportunity to all whose lives we touch…
BSA Selects Designer for New Space
I was asked to sit on the jury this past fall for the Boston Society of Architect’s competition for the design of its new space at Atlantic Wharf. The jury reviewed the approximately 20 entries and selected Höweler + Yoon Architecture. The submittals were both wide ranging and also quite impressive in terms of design quality and the firms and individuals who participated…
Abu Dhabi Project Underway
Progress is being made on a major Abu Dhabi project – these photos depict how Shams Abu Dhabi is taking shape. Arrowstreet was part of an international team of designers to create this major waterfront development…
